Local 27’s Bare Necessities Event to support the Salvation Army got off to a slow start but turned into a great fun day. And we managed to pull in memberships as well (3 singles, 1 couple and a business).
The next event on our agenda is the Regional Rally. A chance to really relax, camp out and get away from the craziness of everyday monotony.
Come out and show your support for ABATE (your voice for motorcyclist rights in California) ---- then plan your other rides.

Local #27 News Brief – April
Local 27’s March meeting was somewhat sparsely attended by about 20 members. Those that attended were involved and connected. It is always fun to connect with people we haven’t seen in a while. Legislative bills were discussed – calendar of events was presented and new and returning members were greeted - Plans are being consolidated for our Bare Necessities Run in May. A reminder to all to visit our business members if only to say “Hi” (all usual stuff) The Geezers and Heart N Soul are regularly represented and have become strong supporters of ABATE their input and help are tremendously appreciated. We are still working the I.E.HOG meetings and are slowly gaining members and support there as well. Strength and support begin at home. We are working to make our Local strong. This local strength will then, in turn, help support a strong Statewide voice for ABATE in California.
Come out and show your support for ABATE first ---- then plan your other rides.

Local #27 News Brief – January/February
Our Elections were held at our December meeting and new officers will take their positions for January. They are: President – Greg Covel, Vice-President - “Duck” - Tom Russo, Secretary – Ken Nuttall, Treasurer – Faith Sherman, Membership Officer – Ida Snyder, Merchandise Officer – Jack Howell, Safety Officer – Bob Marshall, Advertising/ PR Officer – Jack Howell, Judicial Officer - Nicholas Schneider, Web Controller – Greg Covel, Face book Admin. – Faith Sherman, Riding Committee Chair - Kevin and A.J., Run/Event Committee Chair– Lee & Lorraine Davidson
By the time we read this, all of our Christmas Runs will be completed. I earnestly hope all were successful, and everyone finished the year with joy and happiness in their heart. Our Turkey Run this year (done in conjunction with The Geezers M/C) on December 17th are was very successful ( we have nearly 300 turkeys plus one ham and dinner fixings to donate to Riverside's Salvation Army. Who then distributed these meals to the same number of families.
In Sacramento, our Board of Directors meeting and Rally on the steps of the Capitol was January 8th and 9th . The BOD mtg. Was sparsely attended, but those that showed up were able to share ideas and problems enabling each of us to be aware of new ideas and the fact that we are not alone in our struggles to keep our Locals alive. The Rally to make our voices heard (primarily about AB 695 and AB 1047) was well attended with many independent riders, MMA, and many clubs making a strong supportive showing. Visiting with the Legislators and their staffs was eyeopening and provided many opportunities to re-iterate ABATE's views. It was somewhat disappointing that so many riders chose to leave before the Transportation committee met , but enough stayed to fill the room and AB1047 was passed by a huge majority and will go directly to the floor for a vote this month. However once again AB695 did not pass and helmets are still mandated for all who ride. All in all a great educational weekend..There were a few surprises, but, I''ll save them for later.
It is now mid- January and as we prepare for another year of activities, remember that the issues of todays riders need to be considered and addressed – Safety, Training, Education, and rights to ride. Many communities are making it difficult for motorcyclists to ride and this needs to be a focus for ABATE. While still backing the issue of helmet choice.... like it or not this is becoming a non issue for most riders under 40. They either have never ridden without a helmet and are not comfortable without one or they have bought into the insurance / media message of how they save lives (even if you are left brain dead after a head on crash).

Local #27 News Brief – December
As I write this, October is past, November is beginning and December is on the horizon. Time seems to be flying by and all of our days are filled with tasks to get completed.
The Nov. 1st Meeting was again well attended and nominations for 2012 officers was finalized. Discussed was our new face book page, updating the website calendar and links assistance for the American Legion Post and researching a new PR project called “Look Twice – Save a Life”.
We had the opportunity to participate in the Riverside Mission Inn Run half marathon as pace bikes for the runners and also got several petitions signed at our table with the help of the Geezers M/C. Also spoke with the organizer of the Flabob Air Show about a booth and bike show next year. They were very responsive.
Our Elections will be held at our December meeting and new Officers will take their positions for January.
Local 27 has joined forces with the Geezers M/C and the American Legion to hold our annual Turkey Run for the Salvation Army. Last year we furnished about 340 families with Christmas dinner. Hopefully we can beet that mark even with the economy the way it is.

Local #27 News Brief – October
The Bailing wire Run on Sept. 3rd was sparsely attended. I was however happily joined by 3 members of local 19. We rode up highway15 to Hesperia, spent some time with Carol and Tina, then rode out the back way on 138 to return to highway15 (the twists and turns were great and we avoided the congestion caused by the fire in the pass) and on back home. The weather couldn't have been better.
The ABATE State Run is/was September 16,17,18 . If you planned on going ... it's too late now.
Plan for our Poker Run on Oct. 9th. It should be an enjoyable 60 mile loop around Riverside. Flyers are out and it is on our website. Come and have a great day. Preregister and save $$$.
Locals 8 and 20 are having a Halloween Run on October 29. Lets all work together to make it a success. I know Local 27 will make a showing – Anyone else? Come on now, if Abate doesn't support its own, how can we expect others to support Abate.
The next BOD is in Sacramento on October 15th. Time for fine tuning our legislative/political plans for the next year (that's all I'll say about that for right now).

Local #27 News Brief – September
Local 27 had our trailer and booth set up at the IMS (Inland Motor Speedway)in San Bernardino, August 12th. What a blast! This is a location where no matter what you ride (dirt bikes to choppers)or don't even ride, everyone is there to have a noisy, stress free, pleasant evening.
The BOD meeting was July 30th Decisions were made and the pizza was great . A.J. Barrile's treated us wonderfully. Those of you who couldn't make it (7 southern Locals were not in attendance - no excuse) missed out, but we all have our priorities.
Don't know if we're doing right or not, but Local 27 is growing in size, recognition and influence. Can't grow crops if you don't get out into the field. Several other locals have been in contact with Local 27 for ideas and help. We encourage every local to fulfill their obligations to the State ABATE organization and to get out there and help ABATE grow. This takes effort and time. If you are not able or willing to put forth the effort then find someone who is and get out of their way.
Plans are in the works for our Poker Run on Oct. 9th . It should be entertaining. Flyers are out and it is on our website..Come and have some fun. Preregister and save $$$.
The State Run is September 16,17,18 and I hope to see representatives there from every local in California.

Local #27 News Brief – August
In July Local 27 made contact with IMS (Inland Motor Speedway)in San Bernardino, got together with Locals 23,19,44,and 36 and now have banners up at the speedway, a booth once a month and 2fer tickets to the races. Having ABATE advertised in a new venue of motorcyclists can't hurt and we were pleasantly received by the race fans. The roar of engines racing around the track, the smell of race fuel and the camaraderie is exhilarating and took me back many years.
The BOD meeting was July 30. It is a Southern BOD so, hopefully, all southern Locals sent representatives to meet the California State Board members and observe the process.
Plans are in the works for our Poker Run on Oct. 9th . It should be entertaining. Flyers are on the way and it is on our website..Come and have some fun. Preregister and save $$$.
Local 44 had a Poker Run last weekend and the ride wound through the desert and up into the foothills. I had a ball and truly enjoyed the day.
