>The ABATE of CA Golden State Rendezvous is in full swing. It’s a great camp-out on the Kern River!! Don’t miss it!!! The dates are: Sept. 16-18, 2011 and it’s being held at Frandy Kampground at the Kern River in Kernville, CA. (prices & additional info is on our website at www.abatelocal27.org OR www.abateofca.org
>VOLUNTEERS are needed to help with our LOCAL 27 “Poker Run or not” on Sun. 10/9. At 8:00AM we need help with taping off parking areas and setting up canopies for Sign-In, ABATE Merchandise Booth and Raffle/50-50 Booth. On Sat. July 30th, Local 27 hosted the Southern ABATE of CA Board of Directors Meeting. It was attended by officers and members of many different Locals.
The morning began with a “meet’n’greet”, where ABATE members gathered in small groups to have coffee & doughnuts and talk about everything.
Soon it was time for the ABATE business to begin.
The first meeting was for the Presidents of the Locals. 2 noteworthy items:

The Political Action Committee Meeting (PAC) was next followed by the Board of Directors (BOD) Meeting. The Lobbyist for ABATE of CA, Jim Lombardo updated us about “motorcyclists-issues friendly” candidates running in upcoming political races. We will be able to read more from Jim in upcoming issues of the ABATE of CA newsletter, the “Bailing Wire”.
There will also be a RALLY on the South steps of the Capitol in Sacramento on Mon. 1/9/12.
A new bill proposal has been made by ABATE member, Gill Mellon, with regards to motorcyclists riding in the toll lanes and the transponders. It will exclude motorcyclists from displaying transponders in order to use the toll roads. It will allow the transponders to be carried in a saddle bag, vest or shirt/jacket, etc.
As the BOD Meeting got under way, a report on the “state of ABATE” was given by the Chairman of the Board, Sarge Mathews. Other reports followed, given by the other Board Members.

One of Local 27’s business members, AJ Barile’s Chicago Pizza in Yucaipa, allowed us the use of their restaurant as the meeting site. The food was awesome

……………….He’s everywhere…….talking to people…….motorcyclists and non-riders alike………..promoting ABATE……..signing up new members………handing out Bailing Wires, flyers and other literature………he pulls the “rolling advertisement” with his truck……..he sets up tables everywhere…………it doesn’t stop him if he can’t get members to join him to help out…….he shows up anyway……..the most dedicated person in the ENTIRE ABATE of CA organization……and Local 27 is very lucky to have him as a Life Member!!!! So if you see Jack Howell out and about………..tell him what a great job he’s doing for all of us who ride!!!!

>>Local 27 has some new members who belong to the Heart-N-Soul Riders MC. They held their 2nd Annual Picnic in Corona on 6/26. The Officers from Local 27 who were able to attend had a blast. They include: Duck, Don, Lee, Lorraine and Jack. Don took some great pics; check them out on photobucket on the Local 27 Facebook site.

7/2 is the date for the Advanced Safety Course. Price is $85 per person and you get to use your own bike. Please contact our Safety Officer, Bob Marshall at 951-217-0947 for place, time and other details.

TIME TO INFORM AND EDUCATE! I encourage everyone to pick five people and educate them on some of the issues riders face these days. Ask them in turn to discuss the issues with five more people. Examples include: Motorcycle Checkpoints and discrimination; safety in regards to the repair and upkeep of our roadways; sharing the roads with motorcyclists. The list goes on and on. Remember, two wheel riders pay taxes and vote just like everyone else. Educating everyone helps all of us!
